Your childhood is a lie!

on Thursday, 29 November 2018 we did a reading activity about the true story of the three little pigs.
We read a practice one then we were off, ready to give it a go!
So we went into Koka Nolian's office and gave it a go.  We went to watch it but the sound didnt work on Adrianas chromebook so after morning tea we went in the hall and it didnt work in there again!!
So we went on Koka Ngaire's chromebook and it worked !! and then we had to show it to the class and it was really embarrassing but after all I was really proud and it was awesome.

My Tennis Tornament

On the 23rd of October we went on a car trip to Napier. This is the crew from our school that we took to the tennis tournament.

If you made it to the final and didn't get a bye in the first round then you would have exactly 5 games and it was elimination.

And I made it to the final it was so crazy I never thought I would get this far and I ended up losing in the final but I'm surprised I got that far. And my friend got all the way to another section final to and he won !!!!!!!!!

My New Skateboard

I'm so excited! Yesterday I got a new skateboard! My parents promised me that I could get one during our trip to America.

It was so much fun making a custom board because I could pick out all the parts. First was the deck. It's a 7.75 inch and the brand is Toy Machine. It has an American flag on it. Then I picked out the grip tape. It has a alien getting beamed up by a flying saucer. It looks like this and I love it because it's unique.

Next we picked out the trucks. I learned that the trucks couldn't be longer than the width of the deck. Afterwards we chose wheels and barrings. The wheels I picked were Spitfire brand. They have a snake on one of the wheels and look like this...

Next we got to build the board and my new friend Adam helped me do it. We put the grip tape on and I found it really funny that my mum corrected Adam on the easiest way to cut the grip tape. My mum's first job when she was 17 was to build custom skateboards. We all had a good laugh about that.

Next, we bolted the trucks onto the deck. I learned how to stuff the barrings into the wheels. Next we screwed the wheels onto the trucks. Finally we had a complete board! I've been skating on it all day, and I can't wait to show my friends.

Facts about Avila Beach

Related imageWhere I am in Avila Beach visiting my grandma and grandpa we decided to go to the beach. First we had to go to lunch so on the way to Taco Bell [yum yum] my grandpa told me a story. The Native American Indians used to call Avila Beach hole in the sky. It is sunny almost all the time but around us is fog and mist. The scientific reason for this amount of sun is because it is the only beach that faces south while most California beaches face west. When all of the pilots fly above they always see Avila Beach because it is the hole in the sky.

Related imageThe Avila pier is 513 meters long. One year ago the pier was shut down because 2000 people from the beach rushed onto it to view the hump back whales going by and the pier cracked.

Related imageAnother catastrophe which struck Avila Beach was the oil spill in 1980. Several oil tanks on a hill above Avila beach started to leak. This caused contamination under the town. The result was  all of the buildings had to be torn down and rebuilt in addition to replacing the sand. Thousands of truck loads of sand had to be brought in to replace the contamination. After all the repairs the town looks brand new.

Overall it was a fun day at the beach.

Seve's Trip to America

Yesterday I went to Morro Bay which is on the Central Coast of California. My grandparents took me on a tiki boat to see some of the marine life there. We saw sea lions and sea otters.

Image result for sea lionSea lions are big, kinda like a large dog. I learned that they bark like dogs too. They are also more closely related to a bear than a marine animal which I find really weird. The reason for this is because they have external ears. Most marine animals have internal ears.

Sea otters are a lot smaller than sea lions closer to the size of a small dog or a big cat. They live in the same area but they don't bother each other. There are only 3000 sea otters left in California (and 100,000 left in the world). The majority of the California sea otters live in Morro Bay. The population grows so slow because the females only have 1 to 2 babies in their lifetime and they are hunted by sharks and illegally by man. They spend most of their life in water because their body overheats and can't handle 10 mins out of the water.

Morro Bay has a big mountain rock called Morro Rock. Its kinda like Mount Maunganui but Morro Rock has more rocks on it. The only people allowed up the rock are the Native American Indians and they recently had a ceremony for the summer solstice which is the longest day of the year. The rock formation started in Mexico and over thousand of years has moved up the coast. It moves 2.5 centimeters per year.

Peregrine Falcons live up the top of the mountain. They are the a fastest animal in the world traveling 321 kph when hunting (WOW!)

Overall it was a very fun day with my family and I learned a lot.

My weekly timetable

Hi, I'm going to explain how my timetable works.

Our class has a weekly time table that's blank. We go into our email and there is a form that says workshop sign up from Koka Ngaire.  We sign up to the workshops that we need to go to during the week.  I know my levels and my goals so that helps me sign up to a good-fit workshop.

When we have signed up, we fill in our timetable. We have some gaps in our timetable so we fill it in with Links to Learning.  Some of these activities are: quick write, basic fact challenge, word work, work on maths or writing.   Then we follow it during the week.

I find it so easy with the timetable, everything goes faster and it is a lot of fun doing our work and being in charge of my learning!
